Clearsonics wins Adelaide tunnel project

The Heysen tunnel in South Australia has been upgraded with Clearsonics WayPhones and the WayPhone Tester. The twin tunnels are the gateway to Adelaide and has been operating for almost two years, significantly improving traffic safety through the Adelaide hills.

Unfortunately the hands-free emergency telephone system installed was not able to cope with the level of noise experienced in the tunnel and Transport SA contracted Clearsonics to solve the problem.

Both GSM mobile and fixed line Panel WayPhones were installed on the tunnel walls and fixed line Wall type WayPhones in the connecting corridors between the tunnels.

A WayPhone Tester was installed at the Transport SA control room where the system can be automatically tested.

Transport SA and the tunnel users will benefit from an emergency telephone system where

  • phones will be on the tunnel wall where they are much easier to access than inside the fire cabinet
  • users and the control room can easily carry out a conversation regardless of the traffic conditions
  • remote diagnostics ensures all phones are working when needed
  • the control room will now receive information on where the caller is actually located in the tunnel.
